A word family is a group of words with a common feature or pattern such as ot, cot, dot, hot, pot, not. On one of the Index cards children written the word family ending on the right half side of a card and cut the other index cards in half. Child wrote a letter on the halves of the index cards that will make a word with the ending.
They have written the blends as well such as bl, sh, ch. In last they staple the half index cards on the left side of the index card with word family on it.
Child was able to flip through the letters and read the words. They made 9 filp books with word family og, ot, ug, ut, un, in, ash, en, uck.
